LinearAbsorption

LinearAbsorption[sys,ω]

gives the formula for absorption of weak light of frequency ω by a system sys.

LinearAbsorption[sys,ω,ΓP]

finds absorption assuming Doppler broadening with width ΓD.

LinearAbsorption[sys,ω,ΓD,ΓP]

finds absorption assuming pressure broadening with width ΓP in addition to Doppler broadening.

Details and Options

  • The atomic system sys is specified as a list of AtomicState objects.

Basic Examples  (1)

Absorption by a two-level system.

Define the system.

Find absorption.

Absorption assuming a Doppler width ΓD. Here we write the light frequency in terms of the detuning Δ.

Absorption assuming a Doppler width and pressure broadening ΓP.

Scope  (1)

Absorption by a Doppler-free system with hyperfine structure.

Define the system.

Find absorption.

Plot the spectrum using arbitrarily chosen values for the parameters.
